Colloquium: 
Practices and materiality of knowing in the social sciences



Curators: Felipe Burbano (FLACSO Ecuador), Mark Thurner (FLACSO Ecuador and coordinator of the LAGLOBAL Network), and Carlos Sanhueza (Laboratorio de Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad, Universidad de Chile)

Organizer: Mercedes Prieto (FLACSO Ecuador)

FLACSO Sede Ecuador and LAGLOBAL Network present this colloquium that will bring together researchers from different locations and disciplines to reflect on the variety of ways of knowing in the social sciences. We will visit objects, places, photography, devices, and other practices of knowledge that make up the social investigative trajectory of both contemporary and past Latin America. It will encompass nine sessions held between April 2021 and January 2022; each meeting will include round tables, symposia, and workshops.

Session 1
Round table: Materiality and the management of knowledge

Discussion of the interest in materiality in knowing and other tendencies, together with initiatives focused on the development of knowledge and sciences in Latin America.

Symposium: Disciplines and frontiers of knowledge: Latin American Studies

An exploration of the disciplinary frontiers and crossroads in the framework of area studies. It will focus on its intellectual pathways, disciplinary frontiers, and geography as one of the bases of knowing.

Round table: Between Anthropology and History: transdisciplinary practices

A discussion of the experiences of several steps toward transdisciplinarity in both Anthropology and History; it will also include reflections about the virtues and challenges of studies conducted in the frontiers of disciplines.
