  • He is passionate for democratic innovation processes and popular participation in Latin America. He studied in comparative perspective the participatory democracy in the Andean region. His interest in this subject is the result of his involvement in the analysis of the links between social movements and democratic processes, as part of his studies of Political Science and Political Sociology, completed in Ecuador, Spain and Paris.

One of his most representative works is about the emergence of new repertoires of protest in demonstrations that led to the last presidential overthrow in Ecuador (2005). As part of his studies of popular participation, he has also worked on problems of state reform, decentralization and political change (with emphasis on the cases of Ecuador, Bolivia and Colombia). He closely follows governmental dynamics of leftist governments in the region. He has been visiting professor in Peru and Colombia and now he is a research professor in the Department of Political Studies, FLACSO Ecuador.
