Professor in the Department of Sociology and Gender Studies. Her work highlights the subjective and political dimensions of economic inequalities, produced through the violence of contemporary forms of property and authority. Dr. Cielo has explored these issues through urban research and teaching in Ecuador, Bolivia, the Philippines, California and South Africa. Through collaborative and comparative methodologies, she participates in the relational analysis of our multi-scalar belongings in the global economy, in national territories and in our forms of mutual and vital care.
Dr. Cielo’s currently focuses on the affective ecologies of diverse economies in Ecuador and the political possibilities of those that sustain them. She also seeks to understand knowledge creation and translocal links in the global south, in the context of national policies of higher education and development.
