Doctor in Sociology from the New School for Social Research in New York, United States. He is a professor of sociology at the University of
Kentucky and Professor Emeritus of the Department of Political Studies of
FLACSO Ecuador. He also participates as a guest writer for the Spanish newspaper El País.
His research focuses on the study of populist discourse and how it has manifested itself in the republican life of Ecuador. In addition, he has published important works on populism in Latin America and Europe, among which the following stand out: The seduction of the Veilist, One Touch! Populism and political culture in Ecuador, Populism in Ecuador Anthology of texts, among others.
He has also researched issues related to democratization and authoritarianism, political sociology of Latin America with an emphasis on populis mo, democracy, racism and citizenship.
