Biography

  • Doctor in Anthropology and History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, United States. He is currently a professor at the lnstitute of Latin American Studies at the University of London and is also professor emeritus of the Department of Anthropology, History and Humanities of FLACSO Ecuador.

    Thurner's lines of research cover the fields of History and Anthropology of the Andes and the world. He directs the international research networks LAGLOBAL (Latin America and the History of Global Knowledge) and GDW (Global Decolonization Workshop). He currently has two books in preparation on the global history of the museum and of historiography.

    Thurner has published several books on Latin American history and has been awarded prestigious scholarships and awards such as the Leverhulme Trust International Research Network Grant, the Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad Award, the Center for New World Comparative Studies Fellowship at the John Carter Brown Library, among others.
