Research Master's Programs - Gender and Development 2016-2018

This program aims to develop areas of production, reflection and transmission of knowledge about gender inequalities in Latin American societies and their manifestations in institutions, practices and social identities.

Who is it for?

To people interested in research on gender inequalities, in their intersections with other axes of power in social and political spaces and practices in Ecuador and Latin America. Professionals who work in the field of social sciences and humanities involved in the formulation and design of gender equality policies in the region.

Curriculum structure

In order to get a Master’s degree, students must complete 64 credits in total, divided in:

  • 12 courses of four credits each with a total of 48 credits
  • A research workshop of twelve credits
  • 4 credits for the production and presentation of the master's thesis.
Class schedule
From Monday to Thursday, 17h00-20h00. Some courses take place from 07h00 to 09h00.

Admission requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent certification by a duly certified higher education institution.
  • Grades in previous university studies that average at least 80% of the maximum grade of that institution’s scale.
  • Exclusive dedication of at least five hours daily to the teaching program.
  • Completion of an academic aptitude exam.
  • Proven ability to read and understand texts in English.

Entry Process

All applicants must complete an online form and attach all the required documents. The cost of the application is 30 USD. All applications will be submitted to the corresponding program’s selection process. Selected applicants will be interviewed by FLACSO professors.


FLACSO Ecuador has a scholarship and financial assistance policy for students admitted into its Master's programs. The policy is shaped by criteria of academic performance and by the socio-economic situation of the applicants.
